Provincial Nominee Programs: Involves Agreements between Immigration Refugee Citizenship Canada and Provinces or Territories –Foreign workers who are nominated under some PNPs, under a skilled worker type of category, are eligible for a work permit prior to becoming a permanent resident.

Temporary work valid for up to 2 years’ work permit, which is expected to be sufficient time for the permanent residence application to be approved.

The requirements for Health Care Professional coming to British Columbia through the PNP Program:

  • have accepted a full-time, indeterminate job offer (the job offer must not be temporary or have a defined end date) from a B.C. employer.; if you are a midwife, have a letter of confirmation from an established practice group in B.C.
  • Qualify to work in your occupation in B.C.
  • Have at least two (2) years of directly related work experience
  • Show you can support yourself and your dependents
  • Meet eligibility for legal immigration status in Canada
  • Meet minimum language requirements
  • Have a wage offer in line with B.C. wage rates for the occupation

Temporary Work Permit – (International Mobility Program – CUSMA- Formally NAFTA) Available to US and Mexican Citizens Only

Under the CUSMA (Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement- formally NAFTA), there is a list of 63 professionals from the US and Mexican who may be eligible for facilitated processing when applying for a temporary Work Permit in Canada for up to three years. Because US and Mexican citizens do not require a Temporary Resident Visa to enter Canada, applications for a Work Permit may be done at a Port of Entry (such as a; border crossing, airport, or Visa office, either online or by paper).

Candidate Requirements:
  • Candidate has to show proof of citizenship from their country (passport)
  • Active Registration with the Canadian Professional Body for their profession if required
  • Temporary or indeterminate job offer (a permanent job, or one with no set end date) from a Canadian Employer.
  • Meet eligibility for, legal immigration status in Canada
  • Meet minimum language requirements.
  • Have a wage offer in line with B.C. wage rates for the occupation.
  • Medical exam completed by an IRCC Panel physician
  • Proof of Education and work experience requirements for the job.

Temporary Work Permit – International Experience Canada Class – (IEC)

Canada has a bilateral youth mobility agreement with other countries to allow its citizens to apply for a work permit under the International Experience Canada (IEC) Class.

The International Experience Canada Class has three categories for youth and young professionals: The Working Holiday, International Co-op, and the Young Professionals category. It provides temporary work permits to young people from over 30 countries, so they can legally live and work in Canada. The permits are valid for either 12 or 24 months, depending on their country of citizenship.

Eligible countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong SAR, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Ukraine, United Kingdom.

  IEC Disposition and Benefits:
  • *Option to “open work permit” for the working holiday category and;
  • *“Employer specific work permit” for the Young Professions (graduates)or International Co-op (Internship).
  • Temporary work permit valid for: 1 to 2 years work permit depending of the country of origin.
  • Eligibility to apply twice for the program depending on the country.
  • Experience required: Some experience is required, and it will also depend on the Job requirements of the employer.
  • International Co-op (Internship). The internship offered in Canada must be directly linked to their field of studies.
Candidate Requirements:
  • Candidate must show proof of citizenship from their country (passport)
  • Between 18 and 35 years of age. Between 18 to 30 in some countries.
  • Active Registration with the Canadian Professional Body, if required by the province
  • Temporary or indeterminate job offer (a permanent job, or one with no set end date) from a Canadian Employer.
  • Meet eligibility for, legal immigration status in Canada
  • Meet minimum language requirements
  • Have a wage offer in line with B.C. wage rates for the occupation
  • Medical exam completed by an IRCC Panel physician
  • Valid passport still valid of at least 24 months
  • Have a minimum of CAN$2,500 to help cover expenses in Canada.
  • Not have any accompany dependent to Canada

 

*Canada Immigration temporary measure: You can still travel to Canada under IEC if you’re fully vaccinated or have a current, valid job offer.
